As the world leader in research, development and the manufacture of influenza vaccines, Sanofi Pasteur has demonstrated its commitment to global pandemic preparedness and the company’s employees have worked hard to produce tens of millions of A (H1N1) vaccine doses, the first of which were ready within just four months of receiving the pandemic seed virus.

In addition to producing the A (H1N1) vaccine, the employees of Sanofi Pasteur have produced the seasonal influenza vaccine, recognizing that while the A (H1N1) virus has already infected millions of people worldwide, seasonal influenza is likely to seriously impact the Northern Hemisphere in the winter months – and the Southern Hemisphere six months later. Production of seasonal influenza vaccine for both Northern and Southern hemispheres is, therefore, a priority as seasonal influenza causes an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 deaths per year worldwide, according to World Health Organization figures.
